About CGS Membership

The California Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization open to all interested in their family history. Membership in the California Genealogical Society and Library provides members with opportunities to further their research goals while networking with others to assist the Society in preserving historical records.

Membership Levels

Basic - $35 for 1 year, $65 for 2 years

Receive the California Nugget semi-annually
Use of the Society’s library, the Harris City Directory Collection, and subscription websites
Attend membership programs to hone your research skills and network with members who share your interests
Receive discounts on Society publications and special events
Attend genealogist led research trips to Salt Lake City, Boston, and the Allen County, Ind. Public Library
Access the member only databases on our website
Network with other members who share your interests

Student - $20 for 1 year

All benefits of Basic membership
Must be under 25 with a current student body card

International $45 for 1 year

All the benefits of Basic membership with postage allowance

Family $50 for 1 year, $95 for 2 years

All benefits of Basic membership for up to two members living in the same household. (Please include both names.)

Contributing $100 for 1 year

All benefits of Basic membership
May bring one non-member guest when visiting the library
$50 of Contributing membership may be tax deductible*

Sustaining $250 for 1 year

All benefits of Basic Membership
May bring one non-member guest when visiting the library
One hour of research or one hour of consultation
$150 of Sustaining membership is tax deductible*

Life $1000 [lump sum or $200/yr for 5 years; established when paid in full]

All benefits of Basic membership
Funds will be placed in the endowment

Library & Society $20 for 1 year

Subscription to the society periodical the California Nugget

Volunteers are always welcome to participate in the many society activities and events. A visit or call to the office during regular office hours is all it takes to get started on an interesting project! You may find someone at CGS who shares your research interests.

In addition to volunteering your time, you can also donate to the CGS Library to help pay for administrative costs, library equipment upgrades, new books and periodicals, and much more. CGS is a registered California 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Subject to the recommendation of your tax advisor, your donation should be tax deductible.
