Sat., July 6:10 AM-noon: Intro to Genealogy. A series of 4 rotating classes covering the basics of genealogical research. This month: Vital Records (birth, marriage and death). Due to the holiday, this class will be held online only. Free.

Sat., July 13: California History and Genealogical Series: “Spanish Patriots’ Eligibility for Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).” Robin Rhein Hurwitz, DAR State Chair for Specialty Research, and Mary Anthony Startz, National DAR Specialty Research Chair (NSDAR) lead this discussion of the research efforts, genealogical discoveries, sources, and ongoing efforts to obtain recognition of the significant contributions to the cause of American freedom at the time of the Revolutionary War by the soldados de cuera (leather-jacket soldiers) residing in early California. Pertinent for Sons of the American Revolution (SARs), too! Free.

Sat., July 27: “Mapping Ireland’s Records” with John Grenham. A virtual session with expert John Grenham. His website, Irish Ancestors (www.johngrenham.com), is known as a premier resource for searching Irish heritage. He will discuss the website, and provide a broad overview of the most relevant records for Irish research. Attendees can get a 33% discount on an Irish Ancestors subscription if they register by July 30. Admission: CGS members $10, nonmembers $20.

"Tips & Talk" letters

Tips & Talk: CGS volunteers and others lead discussion groups throughout the month. Held in person at the Oakland FamilySearch Center. Free. All welcome! This month: July 3: German Genealogy. July 12: Irish Genealogy. July 16: Scotland. July 17: French Canadian Genealogy. July 17: Portugal/Azores, Madeira. There are also discussions of DNA basics and how to use the FamilySearch website.
